Whiskey is gone. Late Saturday night Whiskey colicked. Sadly, the colic procedure was unsuccessful most likely due to Whiskey’s colon being displaced (from impaction and gas distention). As suddenly as it came on, with multiple sedatives and pain killer shots not helping, with heavy hearts Marc and I had to relieve my sweet boy of his unrelentingly severe pain and asked Dr. Robertson to “put him to sleep”. In his soft sandbox, Whiskey breathed his last just after midnight, Sunday, May 3rd. He was 27 years old.
He will always be: My Best Boy. The High Ranking Officer. The Horse-in-Charge to calm nervous horses. The Motivational Horse to inspire unmotivated horses. The Vista King. The King of Ear-pinning. My Fire Pony. My Biscuits. |
Yet, in this great sorrow I have only gratitude: Thank You, Heavenly Father, Maker of this creature, for the indescribable gift of Whiskey these past 18 years. It’s flown by like 18 days. Such adventurous, joy-filled years. It was my prayer and constant desire that Whiskey’s life would be to Your glory and Your honor. And to be sure, our shared time (in this vapor of a life on earth) was to my great joy. One day soon I will breathe my last breath and enter into the presence of my Savoir, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is Life itself and I will be home.
Will Whiskey be there, in heaven? The Bible does not say so. But this I do know: I worship a risen Savior. Christ overcame death and the grave. He is the Resurrection and the Life and no one comes to the Father (to Heaven) except through Him. Should God, in His lavish love, surprise me with a resurrected Whiskey it would be an exceedingly breath-taking surprise. My heart bursts with longing for that thought. But… if not, God’s ways are perfect, my trust is in Him, and I will love and glorify Him for all eternity.
May my brief life be lived with increased gratitude and joy for all that the Lord gives, and all that the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. How generous and merciful You are to me. Thank You, thank You. I am eternally grateful to You, my God.
